The levels exceed the maximum values recommended in New Zealand’s Recreational Water Guidelines and indicate that, at the time of sampling, there were excessive amounts of faecal matter, either animal or human in the water.
When you are discharged from hospital
Please note that you are responsible for your own transport home, regardless of how you arrived at Hawke's Bay Fallen Soldiers' Memorial Hospital. If you have had an anaesthetic you must not drive for 24 hours.
Swimming warnings remain in place at Wairoa River where an investigation is ongoing by Hawke’s Bay Regional Council and Hawke’s Bay District Health Board into recent high levels of E. coli contamination.
