The surge of winter illnesses in Hawke’s Bay is impacting the whole of the Hawke’s Bay health system and there is important advice for locals on how to best manage their care.
Immunisation is one of the most effective ways of helping people stay well and free from many diseases. It is recommended by the World Health Organization, the New Zealand Ministry of Health and medical authorities. There is information here about the National Immunisation Programme.
Mumps case confirmed at Waipukurau school
Adults and parents with children at Waipukurau Primary School in Central Hawke’s Bay are being asked to check their immunisation status following a confirmed case of Mumps at the school.
The Hawke’s Bay District Health Board Laboratory Service has facilities in Hastings, Napier, Central Hawke’s Bay and Wairoa.
Presentations to accident and medical centres continue to increase. Yesterday 183 people presented to a GP and Hawke’s Bay Hospital had 11 people present overnight, two were admitted.

Hawke's Bay health services work closely together, and with a range of disability and social support services. Health is eveyone's responsibility. As individuals we need to be active, eat well and seek help early when we need it.
Ten cases of Paratyphoid Fever have now been confirmed by Hawke’s Bay District Health Board, and a number of other cases have been tested with results still pending. The district health board has also identified a link to another Tangi recently held in the bay.
