On Monday (11 February) Hawke’s Bay District Health Board became aware of an issue with a batch of sterilising equipment that was used in Hawke’s Bay Hospital operating theatres, sent to outpatient clinics and used by district nurses between 2 February and 11 February.

Minister of Health, Hon Dr David Clark officially opened Hawke’s Bay’s new gastroenterology and endoscopy services building at Hawke’s Bay Hospital today (Tuesday 2 October 2018). Hawke’s Bay District Health Board is very sad to report that a woman in her 90s, who had campylobacter infection, died yesterday evening from an unrelated medical condition. The woman who was from Havelock North was admitted to Hawke’s Bay Hospital during the campylobacter outbreak.
Central Hawke’s Bay Health Centre provides a myriad of services to its local community. The health centre offers six inpatient beds, afterhours care, inpatient and outpatient physiotherapy and occupational therapy clinics, as well as a district nursing service.
Presentations to accident and medical centres today have been high with 40 people so far presenting to Hastings Health Centre. Other accident and medical centres in the area are also seeing increased numbers of people with vomiting and diarrhoea.
Hawke’s Bay people are being encouraged to visit their doctor or health professional prior to the public holiday period to update medical prescriptions or get a check-up if they’re experiencing the onset of illness.
Hawke’s Bay District Health Board has received strike notice from New Zealand Nurses Organisation (NZNO), advising that nurses, midwives and healthcare assistants covered by their Multi Employment Collective Agreement (MECA) will take strike action for 24 hours from 7am Thursday 5 July until 7am Friday 6 July.
