Tears of joy were shed by Hawke’s Bay Hospital’s frontline paediatric staff at the Countdown Kids Hospital Appeal announcement this morning, with the news a special isolation room and dedicated outside space for immune-compromised kids would become a reality.
Hawke’s Bay Hospital services will be severely impacted with many outpatient clinics and non-emergency surgeries postponed due to next week's planned three-day, 73 hour national strike by junior doctors. Contingency planning is in place to ensure emergency and urgent care services are available at Hawke’s Bay Hospital.

Hawke’s Bay people aged between 60 and 74 will this week start receiving pre-invitation letters inviting them to participate in the National Bowel Screening Programme, which officially kicked off in Hawke’s Bay today (9 October).
Minister of Health, Hon Dr David Clark officially opened Hawke’s Bay’s new gastroenterology and endoscopy services building at Hawke’s Bay Hospital today (Tuesday 2 October 2018). The $13 million dollar facility will boost the hospital’s ability to prevent and treat gastro and bowel conditions, including bowel cancer.
Presentations to accident and medical centres continue to increase. Yesterday 183 people presented to a GP and Hawke’s Bay Hospital had 11 people present overnight, two were admitted.
Hawke’s Bay people are being encouraged to visit their doctor or health professional prior to the public holiday period to update medical prescriptions or get a check-up if they’re experiencing the onset of illness.
