Patients in hospital and the community are offered a comprehensive diagnostic service by the Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora, Te Matau a Māui Hawke's Bay Laboratory Service. The laboratory operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

This Anzac Day, 25 April 2018, marks the 90th anniversary of the opening of Hawke’s Bay Fallen Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital – New Zealand’s only soldiers’ memorial hospital. -

Swimming warnings remain in place at Wairoa River where an investigation is ongoing by Hawke’s Bay Regional Council and Hawke’s Bay District Health Board into recent high levels of E. coli contamination.
