Orthotics is the branch of medicine that deals with the provision and use of artificial devices such as splints and braces. It is a service which assesses patients in hospital, and follows up with outpatients offsite in Hastings.

Hawke’s Bay District Health Board is investigating four confirmed cases of Paratyphoid Fever and is following up three suspect cases. All four confirmed cases have required hospital care at Hawke’s Bay Hospital. At least two of the cases ate mussels gathered from Napier’s Ahuriri area.

Ostomy services are offered to people who have, or are expecting to require a stoma (a surgically created opening in the abdomen for evacuation of body waste).
Stomas include: colostomy, ileostomy and urostomy. Ostomy services provide people with information, advice and support before and after surgery.
